Liposuction for Excessive Underarm Sweating?
Question: Is liposuction an effective treatment for excessive underarm sweating?
Answer: It is not a reliable treatment. It’s believed that the early disappearance of excess sweating is from local denervation and gland disruption. But usually within 6 months, these reverse/heal and the sweating returns.
Botox can be used to treat excessive sweating in the armpits. Studies show that it lasts an average of just over 8 months before needing another treatment. Lasting relief can be obtained from ETS, or endoscopic sympathectomy. This is a significant surgery performed only under general anesthesia. Beneficial effects are reported to last up to 10 years.
