Latisse- Miracle Grow for your lashes?? YES!!!
OK boys and girls, I’m convinced. I have been dying to try Latisse ever since it came out on the market a few months ago. I’ve been hearing great things from our patients that have tried it and gazed with envy at their ever increasing lash length. It’s not like I’m lashless, with mascara I’m able to pull off a decent fringe, but nowhere near what I’m seeing everywhere, from celebs to normal folks.
I’ve gone the fake lash route, with good extensions it is definitely fun, but the thought of ‘growing my own’? Almost too good to be true!!!
Here’s the back story. Allergan, the company behind Botox (you know, the miracle product that makes 40 the new 30?) has developed the growth formula. Their scientists were working on a medication called Lumigan to help Glaucoma patients with eye pressure. During the development phase they realized that their test subjects were growing eyelashes!!! Talk about a side effect!!! Can you imagine Grandma winking at your boyfriend and stealing him out from under you? I’ve heard about ‘Cougars’ but that’s ridiculous!!!
Now I know there are other ‘lash growing’ products out there. Everyone suddenly realized what a great idea lash growth is. The only problem is that Allergan did a patient on the formula, so no other company is allowed to use it. That is unless they want to pay Allergan a fortune in legal fees!
Latisse comes in a box that contains mini brushes and a bottle of ‘magic formula’. All you do is wet the brush and apply like eyeliner before bed. If you forget or are a little lazy with mascara removal, you can do it in the morning. Just make sure it is dry before you put eye makeup over it. If the brush is still wet you can also put some on your eyebrows. Just don’t try it on your upper lip or you might look like your Aunt Rose before her waxing appointment!!! Allergan recommends you wipe any excess product if it drips off with a tissue.
My prior concern was the potential of darkening my iris color since I heard there could be some permanent brown spotting. Allergan is required to warn of iris darkening because some of the Glaucoma patients had experienced it (something like 2%) when they were using the Lumegan product directly into their eyes. NONE of the Latisse users experienced this side effect, but since it occurred during the Lumegan trials they are required to post the warning. Other reported issues are either itching or reddening of the lashline, however it was in a tiny amount of users and goes away in a few days. The itching is just those new lashes excited to be born!!!!
The other cool thing about Latisse is not only does it give you LONGER lashes, but THICKER and DARKER on top of that. I’m flirting with myself even before my mascara goes on in the morning!!! Typical results start after four weeks; I started seeing lashes in two!!
