Dr. Chiu performs surgery with teardrop breast implants under general anesthesia on an outpatient basis. The augmentation takes a couple of hours to complete, and is performed at our accredited facility to ensure the safety of the patient throughout the surgery.
There are different methods of implant incision and placement location that Dr. Chiu can perform depending the preference of the patient and what will produce the most beneficial results. To begin with, the doctor selects one of two incision options:
The teardrop shaped implant is then placed:
- Behind the breast tissue and above the pectoralis muscle or;
- Partially behind the pectoralis muscle
After the teardrop anatomical implants are properly placed, Dr. Chiu will close the incisions with sutures.
Recovery After Surgery
Once your surgery is complete, bandages will be applied and a special compression garment will be wrapped around your breasts.
In most cases, drainage tubes will be used to remove excess fluid that exists after surgery. Dr. Chiu will prescribe medication to alleviate any pain or discomfort that exists during the next few days of your recovery. Although many patients often return to work after about a week, any strenuous exercise or activity should be avoided for at least four weeks after surgery.
