Teardrop anatomical implants are another option when considering breast augmentation. Unlike round implants, anatomical implants are teardrop shaped, which allows patients an opportunity to get a completely customizable implant shape.

Ideal Candidates

Ideal candidates for anatomical implants are in good overall health and are at a stable body weight. Patients should not smoke or take any anti-inflammatory medications since this can increase the risk for bleeding. Although anatomical implants can produce great results, patients should have realistic expectations about the procedure.

In most cases, women desire teardrop breast implants over round implants for one or more of the following reasons:

• Add volume to the lower part of the breasts
• Attain breasts that have a more natural curve
• Have breasts that are more natural in appearance

Teardrop Anatomical Implants

Dr. Chiu performs surgery with teardrop breast implants under general anesthesia on an outpatient basis. The augmentation takes a couple of hours to complete, and is performed at our accredited facility to ensure the safety of the patient throughout the surgery.

There are different methods of implant incision and placement location that Dr. Chiu can perform depending the preference of the patient and what will produce the most beneficial results. To begin with, the doctor selects one of two incision options:

• Periareolar Incision or;
• Inframammary Incision

The teardrop shaped implant is then placed:

• Behind the breast tissue and above the pectoralis muscle or;
• Partially behind the pectoralis muscle

After the teardrop anatomical implants are properly placed, Dr. Chiu will close the incisions with sutures.

Recovery After Surgery

Once your surgery is complete, bandages will be applied and a special compression garment will be wrapped around your breasts. In most cases, drainage tubes will be used to remove excess fluid that exists after surgery. Dr. Chiu will prescribe medication to alleviate any pain or discomfort that exists during the next few days of your recovery. Although many patients often return to work after about a week, any strenuous exercise or activity should be avoided for at least four weeks after surgery.

The results of the procedure may be immediately noticeable and will continue to become more apparent as swelling and bruising subside over the coming weeks.
