Making Your Skin Look Young Again with Cosmetic Procedures

As years go by, we all experience excessive sun exposure, which can cause premature wrinkles and skin damage. With the wonderful weather that Los Angeles can afford us all year round, spending time out in the sun is common; but that doesn’t mean you have to be stuck with skin that’s been damaged by the sun.

Here’s a quick look at some of the cosmetic procedures we offer that can help reverse years of sun damage.

Botulinum Toxin Type A

The most commonly used type of botulinum toxin type A is Botox, which is an injection used to immobilize specific muscles, preventing them from forming wrinkles and furrows. The use of Botox will also help soften existing wrinkles.

Depending on the condition that you are having treated, your Botox injections may be given in more than one area at a time. Botox injections are temporary, so you may want to get repeat injections within 3 – 4 months after your first injection.

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are often used to reduce the appearance of sun-damaged skin, irregular pigment, and superficial scars. During the procedure, your doctor will apply a chemical solution to your skin, which makes it blister and eventually peel off, leaving new skin that is smoother and less wrinkled.

Chemical peels can be done on the face, neck, or hands, and can help:

  • Reduce fine lines under the eyes and around the mouth
  • Treat wrinkles caused by sun damage and aging
  • Improve the appearance of mild scars
  • Treat certain types of acne
  • Reduce age spots, freckles, and dark patches
  • Improve the look and feel of skin

Filler Injections

Injectable fillers work to fill lines and wrinkles with results that can last from four months to a year. Unlike Botox, filler injections fill the line, crease, or area, causing trouble spots to disappear.

Filler injections are often used to replace the body’s natural collagen that has been lost, treating wrinkles, scars, and facial lines. They can also be used to add volume by plumping and lifting cheeks, jawlines, and temples, or filing out thin lips and sagging hands.

There are many different types of injectable fillers that can be placed into different categories, including:

  • Hyaluronic acid fillers
  • Synthetic fillers
  • Collagen fillers
  • Autologous fillers

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is a technique that uses fine powder or a tipped wand to remove the upper layers of skin. This process removes layers of dead and damaged skin cells, which allows healthy new skin to take their place.

Microdermabrasion can be used to treat:

  • Acne scars
  • Shallow scars from surgery or trauma
  • Superficial skin growths
  • Sun damage
  • Pigmentation irregularities and uneven skin tones/textures
  • Fine lines and wrinkles

Laser Skin Resurfacing

Laser skin resurfacing is a technique that directs short, concentrated pulsating beams of light at irregular skin, precisely removing skin one layer at a time. This treatment works to reduce facial wrinkles and skin irregularities, such as blemishes, acne scars, or sun-damaged skin.

There are two types of lasers most commonly used for this procedure:

  • Carbon dioxide (CO2)—uses very short pulsed light energy or continuous light beams delivered in a scanning pattern to remove thin layers of skin with minimal heat damage.
  • Erbium – YAG—is designed to remove surface-level and moderately deep lines and wrinkles on the face, hands, neck, or chest with minimal burning of the surrounding tissue.
