Eating Good Fats is the Key to Eliminating Belly Fat before Tummy Tuck

There are plenty of diets out there to choose from, hundreds of exercise machines and fitness programs to join in, but belly fat is still likely to be a problem. While most Americans know that consuming too much fatty foods is a culprit of weight gain, but a recent study found that it is not about how much fat one includes in their diet – it is about the type of fat the body consumes.

The average American carries about 30 billion fat cells, but that is not the problem. A Swedish study published in the journal Diabetes, reports that consuming saturated fats actually builds more body fat and less muscle than consuming polyunsaturated fat.

The Belly Fat Study

Researchers found that when people consumed more saturated fat they were more likely to harvest more fat around the abdomen and liver, compared to consuming polyunsaturated fat. The study instructed 39 young adults to consume an extra 750 calories worth of muffins per day. The goal for the participants was to gain at least three percent of their starting weight, which was accomplished. However, half of the group consumed muffins made with palm oil, a saturated fat, and the other half consumed muffins made from sunflower oil, unsaturated fat.

Each group reached the same weight increase, but overall more fat was found in those who consumed muffins made from saturated fat. Researchers found that saturated fat was the culprit for producing abdominal fat, known as visceral fat. Visceral fat is the dangerous fat accumulating around the stomach and internal organs, so saturated fat in this case was the most harmful.

This research showed that when comparing saturated fat to polyunsaturated fat, those who desire to lose weight will not be successful when consuming saturated fat foods. Reason being is because saturated fat encourages growth of liver fat and belly fat, which in turn disrupts metabolism. If the body’s metabolism slows down then that means the body is not functioning properly to burn off energy from food and it could be gaining more weight later on. However, with polyunsaturated fat, the body can regulate the storage of visceral fat, promote weight loss and aid in muscle development.

What Types of Food Have Good Fats?

Polyunsaturated fats are found in a great deal of delicious foods. If an individual is interested in eliminating belly fat then they should shop for foods such as, fish, nuts, seeds, avocados vegetable oils or sunflower oils.

Treating Trouble Areas

Of course dieting alone will not efficiently melt away belly fat, a healthy exercise regimen is needed to tighten and strengthen the whole body. However, as a body ages it becomes difficult to decrease excess belly fat, and individuals may find it difficult to remove the remaining 15 pounds or so which makes it a job for a Beverly Hills tummy tuck.
