How to Achieve Stunning Facial Contours

May 3rd, 2019 | Posted in: Chin Implant, Face Lift |

There are several factors that determine when and how we start to age, but there’s no denying the signs once they begin to show. Sagging skin, deep lines, and wrinkles all contribute to an overall loss of facial contours that can be disappointing and affect your self-esteem. Many people struggle with a loss of confidence as they age, especially once it becomes noticeable.

While no one can stop the hands of time, there are several surgical procedures offered by Dr. Chiu that can drastically help slow down the signs of aging and give patients a rejuvenated look. These procedures target areas of the face such as the jaw, cheeks, and chin to provide patients the sculpted facial features they’ve always wanted.

What Facial Surgery Can Do For You

Dr. Chiu offers procedures like the facelift and chin and cheek augmentations specifically designed to target signs of aging and improve facial features. Facial surgery can:

  • Reduce wrinkles and lines
  • Remove and tighten sagging skin
  • Define an undeveloped or “weak” chin
  • Plump up flat cheeks
  • Enhance and define facial features

Facial surgery results are long-lasting and permanent, unlike fillers or other less invasive cosmetic procedures. The best candidates for facial surgery are patients who are generally in good health, do not smoke, and have concerns about their facial appearance that they feel are best addressed through surgery. Dr. Chiu works with each patient to see which procedure or combination of procedures addresses their aesthetic concerns.

Facelift Surgery

Also called a rhytidectomy, facelift surgery targets the skin and underlying tissues of the face that have begun to sag and loosen, contributing to an “older” look. Facelift surgery uses incisions either along the hairline or near the ears to lift, tighten and reposition the underlying facial tissues. Excess skin and fat are also removed.

Facelift surgery can be used to remove wrinkles, increase facial definition, and tighten loose or sagging skin. Loose skin around the neck, also called jowls, can be addressed with facelift surgery. The procedure can also be used to sculpt the jawline and lift sagging cheek tissues for a more refreshed, attractive overall look.

Chin and Cheek Augmentation

These procedures use implants to enhance the structure of the patient’s face and permanently improve appearance. Chin augmentation, also known as mentoplasty or genioplasty, is used to sculpt the chin. Cheek augmentation adds volume to the cheeks while also giving them a more defined look. Dr. Chiu uses incisions in the face to insert and place the implants. Chin and cheek augmentation, either used on their own or combined with another facial surgery, can help increase definition and create or enhance facial contours.

Recovery and Results

Patients will often experience mild discomfort after facial surgery, including some pain and swelling. Pain medication and cold packs for chin and cheek implants may be needed in the first few days after surgery. With chin and cheek implants, a special diet may be needed if incisions are made through the mouth. Most people are ready to go back to work within a week or two, but strenuous activity will need to be avoided until at least a month after surgery.

Results should be immediately apparent, but the final outcome will probably not be completely visible until after all swelling or bruising has resolved. Chin and cheek implants, in particular, can result in changes that drastically redefine facial shape. Dr. Chiu will work with each patient and closely examine their facial structure before surgery to decide what procedures will give them the effects they want. Most patients should be fully recovered within a month or two after surgery. Results are permanent and the rejuvenating effects are long-lasting.
