Can Breast Augmentation Look Natural?

In typical conversation, breast augmentation is thought of as an unnatural enlargement. But this is simply the prevailing notion brought about by Hollywood actresses. The truth is that natural breast augmentation is very attainable nowadays. These are the choices and factors you will have to consider before the breast augmentation process.

Implant Type and Shape

Generally, silicone implants have a more natural look and feel, but a skilled plastic surgeon is capable of making saline implants look and feel just as natural. An expert placement of a saline implant in just the right place and in just the right size will have very similar results compared with silicone implants.
Another option for a natural look is the cohesive-gel implant. With thicker silicone inside, cohesive-gel implants have a firmer feel than regular silicone implants. They come in a wide variety of sizes for any anatomy. Their tear-drop shape mimics the natural shape and slope of the breast. The downside is that cohesive-gel implants require much larger incisions, since they are more difficult to deform and squeeze into a tight opening.

Natural Breast Tissue

Your initial amount of natural breast tissue will greatly impact how natural the end result will be. The less natural tissue, the more difficult it will be to create a natural look. If this describes you, a silicone implant will be a better choice. This is due to a thicker shell which may be more visible with saline implants.

Placing the Implant

Breast implants will look better with a significant amount of natural tissue to cover them. But some do not have sufficient natural tissue for this to work. For this reason, placing the implant partially under the pectoral muscle might be the best method for the natural look. There, are however, a few things to consider with this method:
• Flexing of the pectoral muscle may temporarily change the shape of the implant.
• Implant sit higher at first, settling into position anywhere from six weeks to six months.
• There may be discomfort immediately following the operation. While recovery periods vary depending on your physician’s recommendations, most can expect a return to normal activity in approximately a week.

Implant Size

The size of the implant plays a large part in how natural the breasts appear. Large implants take a longer time to settle in place and feel natural; larger saline implants may never even reach this point. Make sure to feel and note the between the implants yourself when you go to your consultation.

You should consider the ratio of natural breast tissue compared with the amount of implant material. If the ratio favors the implant over the natural tissue too much, expect it to feel unnatural.

Implant Texture

Textured implants reduce movement in the pocket when compared with smooth implants. This feature reduces the odds of the implant wrinkling and repositioning. However, these implants also require much longer incisions than smooth implants (though not as long as the incisions for cohesive-gel implants).

Post-Procedure Massage

Once the implant is in place, regular massages following the procedure can further ensure a natural look and feel for the implant. Massaging creates a capsule around the implant, allowing for more natural movement. Ask your surgeon, as some implants should not be massaged.
